Abstract


Preschool children are a vulnerable group that are in need of special care. Today, more women with young children are taking jobs, either because they must support family or they like to be an active member in the society. Therefore working mothers are in need for a safe place to keep their children in. So, day care centers and preschool nurseries may be one of the avenues available to care for their children.

The aim of the present study is to study the supervisors' knowledge regarding the basic needs of preschool children.
This study was conducted in all nursery schools affiliated to the ministry of education. A sample of 120 nurseries supervisors' working
with preschoolers aging from 4-5 years, was included in the study.
A questionnaire sheet was developed to collect data about general
characteristics of nurseries supervisors and their knowledge regarding ·
basic needs of preschool children such as, nutrition, hygiene, diseases
prevalent among preschool children, play and out door recreation, stimulation, accident prevention and safety, psychosocial needs and emotional needs.
