Anion Gap In Congenital Cyanotic Heart Disease
Diaa Mohamed Shawky;
Abstract
Congenital cyanotic heart disease remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Egypt among infants and children. Our study was conducted in new children hospital Cairo University to study the electrolyte changes represented by the anion gap in patients complaining of C.C.H.D and tried to correlate these changes to the severity of clinical manifestations and haemodynamic state.
We selected 25 patients complaining ofCC.H.D. Nineteen were male 76% and 6 were females 24%. Eight out of 25 were complaining of TGA while 17 were complaining ofTOF.
We selected as well 10 age and sex matched children as controls. All children under study underwent complete history and thorough clinical examination and the serum electrolytes were measured for them to calculate the anion gap.
