EVALUATION OF THE EFFICIENCY OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY STANDARDS APPLICATION IN HEALTH CARE FOUNDATIONS

Abstract

Background:the environmental quality standards are important to achieve the minimum essential environmental health care foundations,reduce the transmission of infections and therefore directly reduce the disease burden, health-care foundations are environments with a high prevalence of infectious disease agents, face unacceptable risks of infection if environmental health is inadequate. Aim:support the application of national standards and set specific targets in health care foundations, assess the situation regarding environmental health, plan and carry out the improvement that isrequired. Subjects and methods: the cross sectional design was used in this study by using assessment checklists, applied in Wadi El-Neel Hospital as accredited hospital and in Electricity Hospital as a non-accredited hospital, deal with different environmental elements which evaluate the efficiency of environmental quality standards application,the assessment questionnaire was also applied to measure the patient satisfaction about the surrounding environmental elements. Results: there was a defect in some environmental quality standards application becauseElectricity Hospitaldid not use the guidelines which support the application of environmental quality standards and did not use the assessment checklists on regular time intervals to assess the situation regarding environmental health by a committee concerning about the hospital environment. Recommendations: following the guidelineswhich provide a basisfor settingstandards at a national level used for creating targets, policies and procedures to be used in each health-care foundation.
