Abstract


Diabetes mellitus is a heterogeneous primary disorder of carbohydrate metabolism with etiologic factors that generally involve absolute or relative insulin deficiency or insulin resistance or both.

IL-l is a cytokine that selectively affects pancreatic beta cells and causes change in plasma insulin. It exerts the inhibitory and cytotoxic effects on insulin producing beta­ cells which give rise to !JOtion that IL-l is involved in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes mellitus.

The term insulin resistance refers to the attenuation of insulin stimulated glucose uptake obesity is the most common cause of insulin resistance.
