HISTOPATHOLOGICAL RESPONSE OF THE DENTAL PULP TO THREE DIFFERENT PULP CAPPING MATERIALS

Abstract

The attempt of preserving tooth vitality (to avoid extensive
treatments) by pulp capping is the ultimate way of treatment. Several
pulp capping materials were used but each of them has its drawbacks.
Recently a new material called Propolis is used as pulp
capping material. Propolis has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial
properties. Also hypertonic NaCl is used as anti-inflammatory
material in the medical field.
This study was planned to study the effect of (MTA, Propolis
and NaCl) on the tooth pulp. Six dogs with average weight and age
were used. They were divided into three groups (A) according to the
applied capping material as follow:
Group (A1): MTA.
Group (A2): Experimental Propolis paste.
Group (A3): Experimental NaCl gel.
Standard cavities were prepared in the labial surface of the
tooth. Then each group was subdivided into another two subgroups
(B) according to the capping technique as follow:
Subgroup (B1): direct pulp capping.
Subgroup (B2): indirect pulp capping.
After application of the capping material, the cavities were
restored using Resin modified Glass ionomer.
