TRAINING AS A MEAN FOR EFFECTIVE DELEGATION AMONG HEAD NURSES

Abstract


Delegation is an important managerial skill for head nurses.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of a training program on head nurse' knowledge, performance, and attitude in relation to delegation process. The study was carried out at Nasser Institute Hospital. The studied subjects were 31 head nurses. The tools used for data collection were cognitive pre­ post test format, an observational checklist, and an attitude questionnaire format. Pre-test was carried out before program conduction, immediate post-test was carried out after the program implementation. The evaluation of head nurses' performance was carried out after one month and three months from the program conduction. The data collected was analyzed by using proper statistical methods. The results showed noticeable improvement in head nurses' level of knowledge and their performance was improved than before. The study recommended that designing of orientation program for new graduate to cover most management skills with emphasize on how, when, and when not to delegate, and the managerial positions must accept and support the concept of delegation.
