Abstract

Glyphosate is the second most widely used herbicide by ,farmer, homeowner and lawn care professionals. The indiscriminate luse of herbicides, careless handling, accidental spillage, or discharge of urytreated effluents into natural water ways have harmful effects on human 1 health,
wildlife health, plant life, fish population and other forms of aqu tic life
' !
and may contribute long term effects in the environment.

I
Glyphosate is a systemic and non-selecti\ e post-emergent worldwide

herbicide. It has been increasingly used in recent years, sin<;e it is
'
biodegradable and therefore persists in the em ironment for only !a short

time. Because of its IO\\ persistence, repeated applications f this

'
herbicide are practiced for the control of\\ eeds in agricultural fields and

thereby, large quantities find their way into living bodies.

The present. study \\•as conducted on adult male rats to assess the
