Abstract

The present work describes the use of adsorptive stripping voltammetry for theTdetermination of some tricyclic antidepressant
drugs (imipramine and desipramine) in aqueous medium The

formation of mixed ligand complexes in which the imipramine (Iruip) is a fixed ligand, and the other ligands are some amino acids viz. glycine (Giy), valine (Val), histidine (His) and glutamic acid (Giu) are studied. The metal ions used are the divalent Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, Cu, Cd, Hg and Pb cations. All the formation constants of the binary complexes (all metal ions+ imipramine) and each ofMn, Co, Ni or Zn with one of the
other ligands and the ternary complexes (Mn(Il), Ni(Il), Zn(Il) or Co(ll) + imipramine

+ one of the other ligands); were determined pH-metrically. Also the formation
• constants of Pb(Il), Cd(Il) and Cu(II) with Imip were calculated polarographically in .

the presence and absence of glutamic acid and histidine.

The present investigation is summarized as follows :

1) The first chapter includes an introduction to stripping analysis at both mercury and solid electrodes. Also the complexes of some metal ions with some amino acids were reported in this chapter. The same chapter contains an introduction to the polarographic and potentiometric measurements. The methods which have been used to determine the stability constants of the formed complexes were reported
also, in this chapter.

2) The second chapter descnlJes the preparation of the stock solutions together with their standardization. It includes the procedures used for the polarographic and
