strains isolated from sheep and goats were I0 Br.meliensis biovar 3.
A total ofI 679 cows, 653 buffaloes, I090 sheep and 415 goats were examined serologically using Rose Bengal Plate Test (RBPT), Standard Tube Agglutination Test (STAT) and Rivanol Test (RT). The number of reactors to (RBPT) was 141 (8.40%) in cows, 50 (7.66%) in buffaloes, 131 (12.01 %) in sheep and 46 (11.08%) in goats, while using (STAT) on those positively to (RBPT), the number of reactor was 117 (6.97%), 42 (6.43%), 110 (10.09%) and 33 (7.95%) in cows, buffaloes, sheep and goats respectively. Rivanol test carried out on those reactors to (STAT) revealed these results, 110 (94.02%), 36 (85.71 %), 97 (88.18%) and 29 (87.88%) in the same examined animals respectively.
A total of 255 milk samples collected from 110 cows, 60 buffaloes, 45 sheep and 40 goats were serologically examined by milk Ring Test (MRT).
The agreement between MRT and STAT among +ve brucella reactors was
97.14%, 94.74%, 88.0% and 76.0% in cows, buffaloes, sheep and goats respectively. Among-ve brucella reactors the agreement between the 2 tests was 96.67%, 90.0%,
78.57% and 90.0% in cows, buffaloes, sheep and goats respectively. While the agreement between the 2 tests among sero-doubtful group was I0%, 50%, 16.67% and
0% in cows, buffaloes, sheep and goats respectively.
600 human blood samples were collected from farms and villages belonging to the districts and cities (502) and from fever hospitals (98) in Menofia Governorate and examined serologically using RBPT, STAT and 2-Mercapte Ethanol Test (2-MET).
The total incidence of the disease was 35.3% among the 2 groups.
