Abstract
Developmental dysplasia of the hip generally includes, subluxation (partial dislocation) of the femoral head, acetabular dysplasia, and complete dislocation of the femoral head from the true acetabulum.
In the more typical form of hip dysplasia, genetic, hormonal and mechanical factors have been reported to be significant.
The diagnosis of DDH starting from an appropriate history with identification of the risk factors such as• positive family history, breech presentation, oligohydramnios and postural deformities.
Physical examination is an important tool helping for
diagnosis of DDH as many signs of the disease could be detected such as positive Ortolani and/or Barlow tests which can be used as an screening tests for all newborn babies. There are also limited abduction, shortening of the thigh, Extra-thigh folds, Ludloff s sign, limping and finally positive telescoping
Sign.
