Evaluation of interstitial lung diseases patients admitted at Abbasia Chest Hospital

Abstract
This retrospective study aims to describe and determine the demographic and clinical profile of patients with interstitial lung disease that admitted at Abbasia Chest Hospital also for evaluation of the initial diagnostic work up done for this group of patients.
The study was performed on patients with interstitial lung disease admitted in Abbasia Chest Hospital between January 2012 to December 2012. A total of 2067 patients were admitted; 164 were CT proven interstitial lung disease patients in whom this study was done. Demographic data, Clinical Profile, Laboratory Investigations, Radiological Features, fate of patients and management received by patients were collected and evaluated for Statistical analysis.
Interstitial lung diseases were common in females than males. Patients with ages between 51 and 60 years had the highest incidence of ILD.
Clinical data of Interstitial Lung Diseases demonstrates that almost of cases (92.7%) had cough, all cases had dyspea, 26.2% of patients were diabetic, 46.3% of patients were hypertensive, 5.5% of patients had renal impairment, 14% of patients had liver impairment and 9.8% of patients had cardiac diseases,58.5% of patients had clubbing, 47.5% of patients had respiratory failure.
Chest X-Ray Pattern of Interstitial Lung Diseases demonstrates that 28.6% of patients had Reticular Pattern in chest x-ray, 12.2% of patients had Nodular Pattern, 31.7% of patients had Reticulo Nodular Pattern, 25.6% of patients had Honey Comb Pattern and 1.8% of patients had free chest x-ray.
Differential Diagnosis of Interstitial Lung Diseases demonstrates that 82.3% of patients had Idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, 10.4% of patients had Sarcoidosis and 7.3% of patients had Collagen Diseases.
Idiopathic interstitial pneumonias were differentiated regarding HRCT into Usual Interstitial Pneumonia, Non Specific Interstitial Pneumonia, Desquamative Interstitial Pneumonia, Lymphoid Interstitial Pneumonia, Cryptogenic Organizing Pneumonia, Acute Interstitial Pneumonia, and Respiratory Bronchiolitis ILD.
Patients’ course and fate Demonstrate that about 42% of patients had remission course and `were discharged from the hospital, 17% of patients had remission course and were discharged on home oxygen, about 29% of patients admitted at ICU without need of Ventilator, 7% of patients admitted at ICU and need assistant Ventilation with successful Weaning and about 6% of patients died.
