HYDROGEOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE FLUCTUATION OF GROUNDWATER LEVELS IN THE QUATERNARY AQUIFER IN TilE AREA BETWEEN BENI SUEF AND GIZA, NILE VALLEY- EGYPT.
SAMAH MAHMOUD MORSY SAAD;
Abstract
The groundwater levels (piezometric surlaces) in the Quatematy aquifer in Beni Suef- Giza area occupying a patt of the Nile Valley reveal continuos fluctuations into monthly, seasonally and yearly rise and low peaks ru•ound the average level. Regional trends of rise by time with local exceptional cases of low are investigated for the period 1990/1997.
The continuos rises of piezometric smface reflect continuos increases of groundwater storage in the aquifer and associated with several risky problems. ln order to prevent the risks, management of the groundwater for shmt and long te1ms ru•e attempted. An optimistic success is based on good prediction of groundwater regime, definition of the natural and man made hydrogeologic factors and proper control of the effective factors.
The present work illustrates the hydrogeologic response of the Quatemary aquifer in the concemed area, and the factors which influence the fluctuations of the piezometric sLUfaces. lt is based on the applying of a suggested graphical model attd one of the mathematical models defined by factor model.
The graphical model reveals qualitatively the factors affecting the flow pattems attd storage of groundwater in the concerned area. The factor model comprises two statistical attalyses; cluster analysis and factor analysis, one follows the other
