Abstract
The biodegradation of two agro-industrial wastes (onion and marjoram) under solid state fermentation (SSF) was carried by an isolate (Aspergillus oryzae) from the natural microflora of the wastes. A fermenter was designed to enhance the biodegradation under SSF conditions and proved relatively efficient. Pectinase (s) was obtained as a result of the SSF and subjected to a partial purification. It was also applied for maceration of potato tissues and extraction of apple juice.
