Abstract


The problem of the study can be stated in the following question:

How effective is teaching a study skills program to first year English

majors in the Faculty of Education in Fayoum on their acquisition and use

of these skills and on their proficiency in English?



Significance of the research:

This research can help in:

1. Identifying some ofthe study skills needed for first year English majors ofthe Faculty of Education.
2. Providing a means for evaluating the study skills of first year

English majors of the Faculty of Education.

3. Providing the bases needed for designing a study skills program for first year English majors of the Faculty of Education.
4. Providing a suggested program that could be used in developing

I the study skills of first year English majors of the Faculty of

I Education.

5. Providing !earner-centered activities that could be used in self­

learning.



Research Hypotheses:

I. There is a statistically significant difference (favoring the post test) between means of scores obtained by subjects of the experimental group on the pre and the post test of acquisition of study skills.
