Abstract

his study was conducted on 20 patients with diagnosed primary true pterygia. Divided into two groups according to age, group A with age from 20 t0 35 years old, and group B with age from 36 to 50 years old.
All of them subjected to preoperative IC and postoperative histopathological examination under light microscope with the same pathologist.
We used 0.4% benoxinate hydrochloride. The rough surface was used for obtaining specimens containing sheets of cells. Staining with H and E. The slide was examined under light microscope using magnification X500 and X1000.
The histopathological samples stained with haematoxylin and eosin. Examined under light microscope with X500 magnification.
All cases had mild to moderate dry eye, more prominant form found in the fleshy type of pterygia with associated punctate keratopathy due to presence of dellen adjusent to the pterygium in the cornea with wetting deffiecency. No associated pinguacula detected clinically as the study population were chosen from patients admitted for pterygium excision surgery. All cases were treated with lamellar keratectomy and conjunctival graft.
