STUDIES ON THE ROLE OF HORMONAL AND CHEMICAL CHANGES IN THE PATHOGENSIS OF DIABETIC RETINOPATHY

Hisham Mahamoud Fouad;

Abstract

Retinopathy is the common long-term complication of diabetes. It can cause blindness and it now stands as the single most common cause of blindness in the middle-aged.

The present study was performed in order to:

Assess the degree of reversibility of the angiopathic eye changes and to find out if these changes are related to the duration of diabetes and degree of
control or not.

Evaluate the efficacy of growth hormone suppression on

diabetic

hormone

retinopathy, as hypersecretion of growth

is one of the most important pathogenic

factors in diabetic retinopathy.

Investigate the different hormonal blood levels

suspected to be sharing in the pathogenesis of

diabetic retinopathy.

The study was conducted on twenty patients with type I diabetes mellitus and with different types of retinopathy. All studied patients were subjected to:

Detailed history taking and thorough clinical examination.
