Until recently macular disorders were considered untreatable. Because of the importance of this area, many ophthalmic surgeons and studied paid attention to managing those problems. Our study is one of the many ones that evaluated the results of different surgical interferences in this
critical area of the retina, the macula.

We had 137 eyes of 134 patients in our group of macular diseases. These eyes were grouped into 4 major classes according to the macular disease

Consisted of 40 eyes of 38 patients. The operation consisted of pars plana vitrectomy, separation of the PVC and then total vitrectomy, dissection of the epiretinal membrane if present, fluid-air exchange, the use of platelet concentrate as an adjunctive substance, replacement of air with 16% C2F6 and face-down position. 17 eyes (42.5%), remained within 2 lines in 12 eyes (30%), and deteriorated 2 lines or more in 11eyes (27.5%).
In the anatomically successful group (32 eyes), vision improved 2 lines or more in 16 eyes (50%), remained within 2 lines in 10 eyes (31.25%), and deteriorated 2 lines or more in 6 eyes (18.75%). In the anatomically failed group (8 eyes), vision improved 2 lines or more in 1 eyes (12.5%), remained within 2 lines in 2 eyes (25%), and deteriorated 2 lines or more in 5 eyes (62.5%).
