Isolation and characterization of mycoplasmas from wild and earthen pond raised fishes in Egypt
Sarah Sayed Ahmed Mohamed Elshami;
Abstract
1- Cyprinus carpio had the highest incidence of Mycoplasma isolation
5 out of 15 (33.33%), preceded by Oreochromis niloticus 29
(16.36%), then Aulopiformes Synodontida 6 (8.108%), and finally
Clarias gariepinus 2 (6.45%). Mugil cephalus didn't show any
incidence of Mycoplasma (0%).
2- The gills had high incidence of Mycoplasma isolation 42 (35.29%)
and it is the only organ that the Mycoplasma was isolated from.
3- The incidence of Mycoplasma isolation was (20.16%) in Giza
governorate, (15%) in Behira, Damietta (12.12%) and Port Said
(2.43%).
4- PCR for the isolates using the universal primers for Mycoplasma
gave similar results to that given by culture method Cyprinus carpio
(33.33%), Oreochromis niloticus (16.36%), Aulopiformes
Synodontida (8.108%), and finally Clarias gariepinus (6.45%).
Mugil cephalus was negative by PCR for Mycoplasma. All
examined samples were negative by PCR for Spiroplasma.
5- Mycoplasma recovered from gills was subjected to PCR using the
Universal Mycoplasma primers which the same incidence (35.29%)
as that recovered by culture. All examined samples were negative
by PCR for Spiroplasma.
6- Mycoplasma was recovered from all examined governorates Giza
(20.16%), Behira (15%), Damietta (12.12%), Kafr El Sheik
