BIOCHEMICAL STUDY ON SOME MARKER. S Of' ENDOTHELIAL DYSFUNCTION IN INDUCED HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA IN RATSNAGWA SAYED AHMED H. SElF EL-DIN
AbstractThe present study was done on ninety male albino rats purchased from Assiut University Animal House during the period between 1995 to 1997. They were randomly divided into three groups; the first group involved thirty rats fed a standard chow diet, and represented the control group. The second group comprised thirty rats that were fed the standard chow diet but enriched with 1% cholesterol and 0.5% cholic acid and represented the group of studying the effect of feeding high cholesterol diet (cholesterol-fed group). The third group involved thirty rats that were fed the same diet as the cholesterol fed group but supplemented with administration of the antihypercholesterolemic drug, bezafibrate given in a dose of(lOO mg/kg/day) orally. Feeding was continued daily for 8 weeks (length of the experiment). At the end of the dietary feeding period, rats were anaesthetized by an intraperitoneal injection of pentobarbital (50 mg/kg/body weight). Blood samples were taken from the optic vein and EDTA was used as an anticoagulatnt. Plasma were separated and used for the biochemical determinations performed in the present•study. After the withdrawal of blood samples, rats.•were exanguinated and the thoracic and abdominal aorta, liver and kidney were removed for the assessment of histopathological changes affecting these structures using light and electron microscopy examinations.
