Use of Phenyl Mannitol Broth Containing Aztreonam and Ceftizoxime For Detection of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Compared to other Methods

Abstract

. 1ln our study we aun to demonstrating the role of Phenyl Mannitol Broth Containing /\i'.treonam and Ceflizoxime in improving detection of (MRS/\) isolated fh1111 hospitali1.ed patients, out patients clinic and health care workers. The stud y was conducted on 98 patients selected from Air Force llospital. One sample for each patient w•as taken. In our study we confirm the ahility or PIIMn I f(lr detection or MRS/\ in comhination with mannitol salt agar. < )xacillin screen agar has failed detect 4 cases found to he MRS/\ hy the other 2 methods. We noticed the high prevalence of S'taphylococcus aureus i n the anterior narcs so we confirm that the anterior

narcs it is important site f(.>r reservoirs of Staphylococcus aureus and acting as a common source of in feet ion, aggravation and exaggeration of clinical picture. So we suggest lhnt if we can eradicate Staphylococcus aureus from anterior narcs we may he able to control the aggravation of the infection.
