Immunohistochemical Expression of Octamer-Binding Transcription Factor 4 in Breast Carcinoma
Mohammed Shehata Abdel All;
Abstract
This is a retrospective study that carried on sixty cases of breast lesions selected from the pathology department Ain Shams Specialized hospital during the period from 2011 to 2014. The cases include forty eight breast carcinoma cases, eight of which had in-situ changes and twelve epithelial hyperplastic cases.
All cases were revised to record the clinicopathological data including age, tumor type, tumour size, tumor grade, lymph node status, hormonal status (ER, PR), HER2/neu and Ki67 results, also these cases were prepared for H&E examination and immunohistochemical staining of the paraffin embedded blocks for OCT4 using streptavidin biotin technique.
The patients’ age ranged from 34-72 years with a mean age 54.50. The highest rate was in the age group >45 years (66.66%).
Tumor size ranged between 1.5-9 cm with a mean size of 5.25 cm. Most of the tumors (62.5%) were categorized as T2. T1 were 22.91 % and T3 tumors were 14.58%. Majority of cases were invasive duct carcinoma (77.08%). Lobular carcinomas were (20.83%) and only one case (2.08%) was medullary carcinoma. But regarding tumor grade, Twenty eight cases of breast carcinoma (58.33%) were grade II. Grade I were (22.92%) and grade III were (18.75%).
50% of cases showed axillary lymph nodes metastasis. Cases were then staged according TNM staging system into N0, N1 and N2 were 50%, 18.75% and 31.25% respectively.
Eight out of thirty seven cases of IDC had ductal carcinoma in situ. Three cases showed >25% in situ ductal component of comedo, solid & cribriform type and of nuclear grade III, while five cases showed <25% of comedo type, nuclear grade II and forty five cases (93.75%) had no vascular emboli
ER and PR positivity was detected in 70.83% and 66.67% respectively. And 33.33% of the cases were HER2/neu positive, also Twenty eight cases (58.33%) w
