Comparative Study Between Enoxaparin and Heparin for the Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism in Surgical Patients

Abstract
This present work was ca!Tied out during the period from February
2003 to January 2004 for the comparison between heparin and enoxaparin in the prophylaxis of post-operative D.V.T in surgical patient.
One handred patients, 58 females and 42 males their ages ranged from 40 years to 82 years were addmitted toAssiut University Hospital and they had many risk factors of developing D.V.T. as: Obesity, Prolonged surgery. Varicose veins, Malignant disease, Preoperative hospitalization over 5 days. Oestrogen therapy, Chronic cardiac disease or bronchitis, Previous history ofD.V.T.
These patient were subjected to meticulous pre-operative assessment through full history taking, full physical examination, laboratory investigations, also they subjected to specific investigations. As :
a) Colour Doppler : for both lower limbs pre operative and at 3rd post operative day.
b) Bleeding profile: blood samples were taken preoperative and 3 hr. after injection of the prophylactic coagulant drug on the 1'1 post operative day for : platelets counts, prothrombin concentration, active partial thromboplastin time, clotting time every 6 h.
Post-operative assessment of these patients was done though :
1- Any postoperative complications in the form bleeding, haematomas. reoperations. Allergic side effects as well as local bleeding at the injection site will be noted.
