GREYWATER TREATMENT AND REUSE VIA DIFFERENT SIMPLE AND ADVANCED TECHNIQUESAhmed Makki Jabbar Al-Sulaiman
AbstractThe present study deals with rea l G W t h a t was coll ected from fi ve flats a nd connected to a pil ot pl a nt, wh ich was setup i n NCR, Egypt, i ncluded s u mp ta n k, ST, AE, and CW. Three t rea tment systems were i nstall ed i n t his pi lot pl ant na m el y, MBR, SB R, and UASB. R aw Greywater was subjected to t wo s uccessi ve sett l ing tanks. The effluen t was di v ided i nto fo u r streams. The first one was di rected to t he AE, the second one was d i rected to the C \V, th e thi rd was di rected to t he M BR, and whi le the fou rth was directed ro the BR. A pi lot -scale of UASB fol l owed by MBR un i t was insta lled and operated in the R C. Rea l raw grcy wa ter was subjected to U ASB a n d the effl uent was fu rt her trea ted wi th M B R . Th e o bjective of t h is study was to investi gate different hy brid t reatmen t processes for h a ndl i n g the GW for unrestricted wa ter reuse. The viabil ity and effici ency of sedime nta ti on process a t di ffe ren t times was exam ined. The viability and efficie ncy of sed i mentation process followed by AE system, a nd CW system we re also exam ined. Raw G W treat m en t was f urther eva l ua ted empl oy ing ch emi ca l and bio l ogi cal coagul ati o n fol lowed by sed i mentat io n processes. Th e chem ica l coagul at ion incl udes l ime (Ca02) and l i me ai ded w it h ferri c chl or ide (FeCI3) as wel l as advanced oxi dat i on as Fenton's reaction (Fe2 (S04 )J.H202). ser ves as possi bl e pre treatment to ensu re a successfu l sed i menta t ion process. The ex perime n ta l met hod ill\ ol vcs monitoring of speci fic water q ua lity consti tu ents, under va ryi n g opera ting cond it io ns. at different sedim entati on period s a nd differen t c hem i ca ls doses to reach the s usta i nabl e a pproach. GW trea tment was exam i ned first in ba tch ex peri m ents to det er m i ne the optim u m operating co ndi ti ons. The obtai ned opti m u m cond iti ons were implem ented througho ut t he pil ot pl ant i nvesti gation. Additionall y, EM was added to the sedimentati on process to enha nce the efficiency of treatment was also in vesti gated. The effl uent was funher subjected to CW. The fin al effluent coul d cope with th e Egy pt i a n code for wa ter reuse. Fu rth er stu dy was car ri ed out to investi gate t he efficiency of MBR a nd SB R separat el y for the trea t men t of raw GWr. The treated effluent exhi bited efficient q uality for u nrestri cted wa ter reuse.
