Restrictive filling pattern of the left ventricle ( an Echo-Doppler Study ) As A Predictor of Risky outcome After Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

Ahmed Ibrahim El-Habiby;

Abstract

• Recent several studies demonstrated the clinical usefulness of Doppler echocardiographic examination of left ventricular filling based on transmitral flow in various pathological conditions .

• Doppler echocardiography has become an important prognostic method for evaluation of patients with coronary artery bypass grafting .
• Echocardiographic study of these patients is done with M-mode, 2-dimentional,

pulsed Doppler and color Doppler

• One aim of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery is to preserve normal left ventricular (LV) function and to improve abnormal LV function. On the other hand, LV function is an important prognostic predictor for the outcome of pati'ents undergoing CABG.

• The results of a merely pharmacological therapy in patients with advanced left ventricular dysfunction are unsatisfactory. Coronary artery bypass grafting is frequently the only therapeutic option, but ventricular dysfunction is generally considered to be a risk factor.

• The long-term benefits of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) compared with medical therapy for coronary artery disease (CAD) are more pronounced in patients with reduced left ventricular function..........
