PAINFUL NEUROPATHY

Abstract


Painful peripheral neuropathies are commonly encountered by physicians in most specialties. Neuropathies arise from many different causes. single or multiple peripheral nerves ;as well as cranial nerves may be involved. painful neuropathies fall under the broader descriptive category of neuropathic pain or pain arising from abnormalities within the central or peripheral nervous systems Patient complaints are quite varied. The patient may spontaneously complain of prickly feeling, pins, needles, numbness, tight hand sensation and searing, or sensitivity with use. Perversion of the sensation may occur when non painful stimuli become painful or hyperpathic .
