MALIGNANT FIBROUS HISTIOCYTOMA

SheriF Ahmed Khaled;

Abstract

MFH is known as one of the soft tissue tumors. Recently, in 1963, it was suggested that it occurs in bone. MFH represents a distinct clinico-pathologic entity and not just an undifferentiated osteosarcoma or fibrosarcotna. In this essay ;the tumor was discussed regarding its pathology, different histologic variants and the specific criteria diagnostic for it microscopically. The clinical picture, different imaging techniques used and differential diagnosis were mentioned. Finally the modalities of treatment used for management were discussed in details. The essay was concluded by showing the prognosis of the tumor. It was found that MFH is a separate entityas it has specific histologic criteria, peculiar X-Ray picture, good response to che1notherapy, but frequent local recurrence and puhnonary •
metastases.
