Spectrophotometric determination of some pfiarmaceutical drugs

Agmed Fathi Farghala Hagag;

Abstract

(1) Chapter 1: A literature survey was presented on albendazole (ALB), allopurinol (APN) and sildenafil citrate (SILC) concerning their biological activities, microdetermination and separation at various conditions. A literature survey on 2,3- dichloro-5,6-dicyano-p-benzoquinone (DDQ) and 3,6-dichloro-2,5-dihydroxy-p benzoquinone (p-CLA) were given. An idea about the use of these n-acceptors as selective analytical reagent was given in details.

(2) Chapter II: Includes the experimental part, the material, solutions, instruments used and working procedures were given.

(3) Chapter III: Simple, rapid and reliable spectrophotometric methods were adopted for the microdetermination of ALB, APN and SILC drugs via CT complex formation with DDQ or p-CLA reagents spectrophotometrically. The effect of different parameters was studied.

Also, the formed CT complexes were studied using elemental analysis, IR,

1H NMR and mass spectrometry ih• order to elucidate the structure of these CT

complexes.

The results obtained were divided into two parts:

(a) The first part: involved spectrophotometric determination of ALB, APN

and SILC drugs via charge transfer complex formation with DDQ or p-CLA reagents.

(i) The absorption spectra of DDQ with both ALB, ALL and SILC drugs in acetonitrile solvent showed three maxima for ALB A= 455 nm (&1 = 1.83x103 L.mor 1

em•'), 540 nm (&2= 1.55xl03 L.mor' cm- 1

and 580 nm (&3 = 1.54x103 L.mor' em•'),

for APN A= 450 nm (& 1 = 1.95x103 L.mor 1 cm-1 , 540 nm (&2 = 0.80x103 L.mor' cm- 1)
and 580 nm (&3 = 0.69x103 L.mor 1 cm-1) and for SILC A= 460 nm (& 1 = 2.50x103

L.mor' cm- 1), 510 nm (&2 = 1.86x103 L.mor 1 cm-1

and 550 nm (&3 = 2.13xl03 L.mor'
