Abstract
The sinus lifting procedure is an important augmentation technique in order to increase the vertical and horizontal bone height in atrophic maxillary bones prior to dental implant insertion. Ever since its introduction, this technique has markedly improved, although a consensus on the ideal grafting material has yet to be found.
The aim of study was to assess the bone regeneration capability of Platelet rich fibrin versus Nano-crystalline hydroxyapatite silica gel in maxillary sinus floor augmentation
This study has been conducted on 20 maxillary sinuses. They were divided randomly into two groups, Group A, in which all sinuses has been augmented by Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) as a sole grafting material and Group B, in which all sinuses has been augmented by Nano crystalline hydroxyapatite (Nanobone).
Identifying data, case history and clinical data were gathered using a standardized assessment sheet. Residual crestal bone heights for the enrolled sinuses were less than five millimeters from the crest of the ridge up to the floor of the antrum, sub-antral option 4 (SA-4) according to Misch sub-antral treatment classification for the posterior maxilla
All Sinus augmentations have been performed following the Lateral antrostomy approach.
After six months, radiographic measurements of postoperative crestal bone heights were done for all augmented sinuses using Cone beam CT. Based on fusion technique crestal bone heights gained were measured at the same site of augmentation and accurate statistical comparison between the two groups could be achieved.
