The Optimum Operation of transport some Commodities on Egyptian Railway Network

Manar Moghazy Abo-Zaid Hassan;

Abstract

This thesis deals with increasing Egyptian Railway share by optimizing
the transport operation of some commodities, and aims to propose
suitable recommendations to overcome the following problems:
- The freight carried by Egyptian National Railway (ENR) network
declined during the last decade for transported tonnage and the
corresponding ton. km.
- The ENR share of freight has dramatically decreased during the
last twenty years for transported tonnage and the corresponding
ton. km.
- Unutilized wagons for some types.
This thesis presents ENR network classifications according to
administrative boundaries zones, tracks type, lines classes, lines
operation, and lines saturation. It also presents ENR freight rolling stock,
freight volumes transported by it within (2000/01-2012/13), and the
unutilized transported volumes of freight in 2012/13.
To obtain the thesis objective; volumes and paths of petroleum products
transported by ENR from their origins to their destinations were analyzed;
a field survey for one of loading depots was carried out, types of turnround
time of petroleum products tankers were discussed, and some
records were collected for some petroleum products trips.
