SOHA ABD EL RAHMAN EL HADY;
Abstract
This work was carried out on patients in burn unit and surgical wards, in Ain Shams University Hospitals, over a period of six months (Aug. 2000 to Jan. 2001) in order to determine the incidence of aerobic organisms causing burn and postoperative wounds infection, and to determine the level of TNF-a in burn patients and correlate its level to that of patients with wound infection both burned and non-burned.
The data included in this work was the result of bacteriological examination of purulent exudate of 18 patients with infected. burn wounds, and 25 patients with infected postoperative wounds infection chosen from the burn unit and surgical wards of Ain Shams University Hospitals. It also included determination of the serum level of TNF-a in 28. patients with burns (infected and
. non-infected), 25 patients with infected postoperative wounds and 16 apparently healthy controls.
