ata about telescopic rods including Bailey-Dubow, Sheffield, Fassier Duval and interlocking rods, and non-telescopic rods including Rush rods were reviewed in the literature.
The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare between the published results of treatment of O.I. using intramedullary telescopic vs non-telescopic rods, and discuss their benefits and complications.
Our search strategy identified fourteen articles out of ninety based on our inclusion and exclusion criteria. To our knowledge, this study is the first systematic review of literature comparing telescopic and non-telescopic rods in treatment of O.I.
The rate of revision in non-telescopic rods was more than the rate of revision in telescopic rods. Infection was rare in non-telescopic and telescopic rods. Detachment of T-piece was the complication which is specific to Bailey-Dubow rod as there is no detachable T-piece in Sheffield, Fassier-Duval and interlocking rods. Migration of the rod was more in telescopic (23.6%) (S.S.) than non-telescopic rods (6.6%) (S.S.). Cutting through anterior cortex was more in non-telescopic than telescopic rods.
No non-union was reported in all papers than had been reviewed. Bent rods we
