Effect of Self-learning package versus lecture on student's nursing achievement regarding normal ante natal care

Abstract


The challenge for every educator is how to prepare students for their future profession. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Self-learning package versus lecture on student's nursing achievement regarding normal antenatal care. A comparative quasi experimental study was utilized. This study was conducted at faculty of nursing at Ain Shams University; a convenient Sample of 220 students included in the study. Data were collected through three tools: Arabic questionnaire sheet, Pre-post-test sheet, Modified Ratting Attitude Scale. The study revealed that self learning package as teaching method have a positive effect on nursing student's achievement regarding normal antenatal care than traditional method (lecture). The students exposed to self learning package method retained higher in follow up test than those exposed to lecture method. Recommended integrating self learning package with other learning methods may increase nursing student's achievements. Further, studies to assess nursing student's retention after three months ''time of final exam'' would eventually help academic systems make more knowledgeable curriculum decisions.
