Mohamed Saad Helal;

Abstract

Slipped upper femoral epiphysis is a disorder of the adolescent hip . Involving progressive displacement of the femoral head in relation to the femoral neck, through the open growth plate, posteriorly and inferiorly.

The femoral head slips posteriorly and inferiorly to expose the anterior and superior aspects of the metaphysis of the femoral neck.

The presentation can vary depending on the acuity of the slip in some cases the process is a slow one, developing over several weeks or months and is characterised by chronic pain in the groin, in the anterior thigh or even along medial aspect of the knee.

The choice of treatment depends on degree and stability of slipping which may be surgical or non surgical .

Although, there are several methods of treatment of tl1is disease, there are many complications which appear during tl1e course of the disease and due to the method of treatment .
