Abstract


The present study was designed to investigate the cunent situation of the early• management of polytrauma-patients admitted to the casualty center at Kasr El-Einy Hospital. The obtained data not only documented the real present situation but it also offered an information base when attempting to achieve a better quality of care and realize an improvement in the system of polytrauma management.


- The investigation was done on sixty poiY:trauma. patients during the period from April to October 2000. The patients included in the study were those who had at least two affected body systems and primarily managed (diagnostic and therapeutic measures) at Kasr EI-Einy hospital.


- A special sheet was designed to record the information about the patient, the trauma, the prehospital retrieval and management as well as the action taken at the resuscitation room. An assessment of each case was done including the management quality through an emergency doctor protocol and a resuscitation room protocol. An assessment was also done for enors that caused morbidities and mortalities including resuscitative errors, operative enors and critical care enors. The fate of the patients was recorded including their admission to inpatient section, ICU, operation room and hospital stay as well as the mortalities and their probable causes. The missed injuries and their outcome were recorded.
