Evaluation of the heparin surface modified intraocular lens implantation in diabetic patients

Abstract


To evaluate the HSM-IOLs that implanted in the posterior chamber after ECCE, regarding postoperative complications in diabetics beings compared with PMMA-IOLs.


Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, St1ez Canal University Hospital, Ismailia, Egypt.


Study Design:

The study was perfonned aa prospective, randomized, clinical trial with QUe-year follow-up.


Study population:

Thirty-two diabetic patients (44 eyes) were selected for this study among patients undergoing to ECCE with PC-IOL from October 1995 to December 1996. Their age ranged from 44 to 79 years. They were 14 males and 18 females. Duration ofDM varied between 2 and 20 years.


Methods:

All diabetic patients were subjected to patient's personal, medical history and preoperative ophthalmic examination. Patient's informed consent was obtained prior to operation. All patients were operated by a
