Abstract

. First Experiment: Response of four pea cultivars to rhizobium inoculation and NPK fertilizers:

A field investigation was carried out in the three successive winter seasons of 1994/95, 1995/96 and 1996/97 to investigate the effect of rhizobium inoculation and NPK fertilizers on the growth and production of four pea cultivars, i.e. "Little MaTvel", "Master B", "Lincoln" and "Victory Freezer". This study was conducted at the new-reclaimed sandy soil of the Experimental Research Center, Minia University at West Samalute, Minia Governorate, Egypt. Treatments were arranged in a split split plot design in complete randomized blocks with five replicates. Inoculated or uninoculated seeds with the commercial rhizobium "Okadin" were ananged randomly and planted in the main plots. Three combination rates ofN, P and K fertilizers were distributed at random in the sub-plots. The NPK application rates were: ,
1. 50 kg N + 25 kg P205 + 25 kg K20/fed

2. 75 kg N + 50 kg P205 + 50 kg K20/fed

3. 100 kg N + 75 kg P20s + 75 kg K20/fed

Nitrogen (N) was applied in the form of ammonium nitrate (33.5% N). Phosphorus (P) was applied in the form of superphosphate (15.5% P205) in the first, two seasons and in the form of triple superphosphate (37.5 P205), in the
third season. Potassium (K) was applied in the form of potassium sulphate

(48.5 K20). Nitrogen and potassium fertilizers were splitted into three equal doses and applied after 15, 30 and 45 days from planting just before irrigation. Phosphorus was applied once after 15 days from planting. The four cultivars were distributed at random in the sub sub plots. Data on number and weight of effective nodules/plant, plant vegetative growth, fresh and dry yields and yields components were recorded. The obtained data were statistically analized and combined analysis was done for the effect of the growing seasons . The obtained results may be summarized as follow:
