BIOCONTROL OF SOME COTTON PESTS BY SELECTED MICROBIAL SPECIES

Amal Abdel-Haleim Abd- Allah;

Abstract

These studies were carried out in Plant Protection Research Insti tute (PPRI) under laboratory conditions and applied at Plant Protection Research Institute farm at Kaha- Qalubia Governorate and Mahalet Has san, Gharbia Governorate.
The present work was devoted to study the following points:

1- Isolation of localmicrobial isolates antagonistic for cotton boll- worm (pink and spiny) and screening their abilities to reduce pink and spiny bollworm.
2- Identification of the most potent antagonistic isolates.

3- Studies the environmental factors as temperature, pH and carbon

&nitrogen sources on the growth of the most potent selected microbial isolates.
4- Evaluation of different temperatures on different developmental stages of cotton bollworms to determine the optimum temperatures for both pathogens & cotton bollworms.
5- Study of the seasonal flactuation of bollworms Pectinophora gos- sypiel/a (Saunders) and Earrias insulana on cotton plantation during two successive seasons 2007 and 2008.
6- Evaluation of the biocontrol agents for controlling cotton boll- worms under field conditions.
7- Evaluation the number of sprays on cotton bollworms and the ef- fect of these bio-agents on cotton yield under field conditions.
1-Isolation and identification of antagonistic microorganisms

Microbial isolates were isolated from soil samples, diseased and dead bollworm larvae collected from different locations in Mounifia, Gharbia, Giza and Qualubia Governorates to select effective isolates able for controlling bollworms.
