Transperineal ultrasound in assessment of bladder neck in urinary stress incontinence
Mahmoud Fathy Eid;
Abstract
In this study transperineal ultrasonography is used to demonstrate the dynamic relationships of the bladder, urethra urethrovesical junction and symphysis pubis during stress. Two groups are studied 30 continent volunteers and 30 stress incontinent female patient. Each of them 1s subjected for careful history, clinical examination, a urodynamic study and transperineal sonographic assessment.
Different anatomical parameters are shown by transperineal sonography including the distance between bladder neck and symphysis pubis (BS), position of bladder neck on the x-y coordinate system (Dx & Dy), angle between BS distance during both rest and strain (RA), and descent of bladder neck (DBN). Each of these parameters is assessed during both rest and strain. Figures are compared to demonstrate the change that occurs during stress and also to compare continent and stress incontinent
cases.
Results show non-significant relationship between any specific group of age, parity, weight or hormonal
status and the occurance of SUI.
