Effect of Light Cure vs Dual Cure Self-Etch Adhesives on Shear Bond Strength of Bulk Fill Resin Based Composite Material to Dentin
Mohamed Motaz Mohamed El-Safty;
Abstract
This study was conducted t study the effect of different self-etch adhesives on shear bond strength of a bulk fill resin based composite material to dentin. 120 bovine teeth were used in this study. Subsequent to teeth grinding and creation of smear layer, the teeth were divided into 12 groups according to the levels of the study, Level 1: adhesive system (SBU, SBU DC, FU, FM+, FM+DC and ABU), Level 2: resin composite material (Grandio and X-trafil). On ground dentin surfaces, adhesives and composite materials were applied according to manufacturers’ instructions. Specimens were stored in 100% humidity for 48 hours. SBS test was run at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min using a universal testing machine. Data were collected and analyzed using one way ANOVA followed by a tukey post-hoc test to compare between more than two groups in in non-related samples. The significance level was set at P ≤ 0.05. Statistical analysis was performed with IBM® SPSS® Statistics Version 20 for Windows.
The results showed significant effect of type of adhesive used while there was no significant effect of type of composite used.
Conclusions:
Within the limitations of this study, the following could be concluded:
1- The performance of light curing vs dual curing universal adhesives may be a function of the dual cure activators.
2- Addition of MDP to self-etch adhesives improves the dentin bond strength.
3- variations of resin composite material had no remarkable effect on shear bond strength to dentin.
Recommendations:
