EXPERIENCE & CLINICAL OUTCOME AFTER CORONARY STENTING AT AIN SHAMS UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Ahmed M. Onsy;

Abstract

Coronary stenting is now an established technique, which is associated with improved acute and long-term results and prevents restenosis in comparison to balloon angioplasty in selected patients {!Morice et af., 1998).

In this study 100 consecutive patients who received intracoronary stents at Ain Shams University Hospital in Cairo between April 2000 and October 2000 were analyzed.

Baseline characteristics, including patient age, gender, stenosis length, stent location, balloon size, number of stents per patient and presence of ischemic manifestations, were analyzed to determine which of these predicted short-term clinical success. We analyzed cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, tobacco use, dyslipidemia, and family history of coronary artery disease. Analysis of all angiograms to assess vessel characteristics were performed by an experienced angiozraher and site of the stenosis, stenosis length, distal run off and type of the lesion were determined.

In this study there were 4 deaths and 96 survivors. From the 96 patients 22.9% showed documented ISR.
