CUNICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL SURVEY OF INTERFERON RESPONSEIN EGYPTIAN PATIENTS WITH PROVED CHRONIC HEPATITIS

Abstract

All the cases were subjected to thorough history taking with stress on past history to blood transfusion, parenteral treatment, schistosomiasis, Lit:uc<ti IJIOCeuures, surgicai operations and diabetes. Liver biopsy was taken for histopathological examination evaluate the degree of chronic hepatitis and presence of cirrhosis and to exclude the presence of l-IBsAg by orcein staiy

The 45 patients were divided into 3 subgroups:

Subgroup A : 20 patients who received 3 million units of interferon 3 tiw. for 6 months. Subgroup H : 10 patients who received 5 million units of interferon 3tiw. for 6 months. Subgroup C : 15 patients who received 3 million units for 3 months then conlinucd on 5 million units 3 ti\'(_ for another 3 "''-.nths. The results of this study showed:

1- There were no significant changes 111 clearance of viraemia bet ween subgroup A and the control group. 2- There were significant changes 111 clearance of viraemia between

:bgroub B and the control group.

3- There were no significant changes in clearance of viraemia between the subgroup C and the control.

These results coincide with the previous studis made by (Tine eta/., 1991).
