STUDlES ON THE EFFECT OF MID- TO LATE SEASON DROUGHT AND POTASSIUM FERTILIZATION ON WATER RELATIONS AND YIELD OF SUGAR BEET CROP AT NORTH DELTA
El-Said Hammad Mohamed Mohamed Omar;
Abstract
The present investigation was carried out during !994/95 and !995/96 growing seasons at Sakha Agricultural Research Station. Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate. Egypt. The aim of this research was to:
L Determining the soil-water-sugar beet relations such as water consumptive use. soil moisture depletion patterns and water use efficiency under the different periods of drought at mid and/or late-season.
I Find out the convenient rate of potassium fertilization under the drought conditions for optimum yield and quality of sugar beet.
3. Study the effect of drought pe1iods and potassium fe11ilization on the mineral composition of sugar beet crop.
Kawemera sugar beet variety was the crop of the experiment. Date of
sowm.
g was N1 ovemb er I 5111 m.
the r•st season and 1November 2..> rd •m the 2 nd season.
Date of harvest was June 5'11 in the I" season and June 23'd in the 2nd season. The soil of the expe1irnent in the first growing season was none saline clay soil ( ECe
= 1.21 dS/m and ESP = 9. 91), whereas in the 2"d season the soil was clay saline sodic (ECe = 6. 72 dS/m and ESP= 16.67).
The experiment was arranged in split plot design with four replicates. The mam plots were designated to the periods of drought, while the sub-plots were designated to the potassium fe1tilization rates.
