CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TRAFFIC FLOW ON THE EGYPTIAN HIGHWAYS

RASHA OMAR ABOU BAKER.;

Abstract

The Highways transportation networks are considered a major item in development plans due to the fundamental role moving goods and passengers. The Egyptian highway network is expected to grow steadily as the demand from growing population puts a strain on the existing network demanding higher capacity. To meet this demand the authorities can either upgrade the existing facilities or construct new facilities. The design hourly volume is usually referred to as the 30th hour's volume based upon the American code of practice. For the analysis purpose, the "Egyptian National Count Program" data of 2010 was used. The analysis lead to that 50th hour volume might be more suitable design hour for Egyptian highways.

(Key Words: Design hour, Design hour factor, Traffic count, Traffic Volumes and The GARBLT).
