Abstract
Endorectal US can be done by rigid probes, flexible echoendoscopes or ultrasound catheter probes.
Patients receive an enema about one hour before the examination. The patient is placed in the left lateral decubitus position with the knees and hips flexed. A digital rectal examination is performed. Use of a proctoscope before endorectal US is not routine. A condom containing US Gel is placed over the probe, which is then lubricated with a water soluble transducer gel
