Assessment of Parent and Children Satisfaction about Primary Nurses Assessment in Children's Cancer Hospital (57357)

Abstract
Child satisfaction reflects how well a child's health care needs, expectations, or preferences are met. The primary nurses' assessment plays an important role in supporting the children and their parents through the crisis of cancer and plays an important role in today’s multidisciplinary cancer team. Perform key functions at almost every stage of the cancer trajectory. Clinics and inpatient nurses are frequently the first clinical contacts (Louis, 2013).
Aim of the study:
The aim of this study was to assess satisfaction of children and their accompanying parent with the primary nurse assessment in Children's Cancer Hospital 57357.
Research question:
Is there a relation between primary nurse's assessment and satisfaction of parents and children?
I-Technical design:
1. Research design:
A descriptive design was utilized in the current study.
2. Research setting:
The study was conducted at the outpatient clinic affiliated to the Children's Cancer Hospital] CCH [(57357). The ground-floor outpatient clinic consists of 13 examination rooms to examine both the solid and hematological tumors. In addition, waiting area for pediatric cancer patients and their parents is found in front of the three rooms of primary nurses assessment, each one occupied by four nurses. Furthermore, there is a laboratory for analysis of samples from children frequently visiting the outpatient clinic 57357.
3. Research subjects:
A purposive sample including 100 children suffering from cancer and their parents (regardless their characteristics) were studied under the following inclusion criteria:
• Children suffering from cancer.
• Children from both genders, aged from 8 to 18 years with follow up care at the outpatient clinic.
4. Tools of data collection:
I- A pre-designed questionnaire (Appendix IIa):
It was developed by the researcher in the light of relevant references (The Joint Commission’s. International ]JCI[ (2013) & (Al-Abri, 2013) and written in simple Arabic language and it consisted of two parts:
Part I: (Appendix II a)
A- Concerned with gathering data related to socio-demographic characteristics of the studied children such as age, gender, level of education, place of residence, ranking in the family and diagnosis.
B- Concerned with gathering data related to socio-demographic characteristics related to the studied parents such as age, level of education, work, and family size.
Part II:
This part was concerned with data related to satisfaction of parents and their children (suffering from cancer) from care received by primary nurses' (competency, procedures and communication) this part was subdivided into the following:
A- Children’s satisfaction with the primary nurse assessment. (Appendix II b1) The Joint Commission’s. International ]JCI[ (2013)
B- Parental satisfaction with the primary nurse assessment (Appendix II b2).
C- Satisfaction of parents and their children with the building structure of the outpatient clinic in hospital 57357(Appendix IIc) (Al-Abri, 2013).
Scoring system: A 5- point Likert type of rating scale (started from completely satisfied to completely dissatisfied) was used to indicate the level of satisfaction of the parent and their children towards primary nurses' assessment. The score (5) was (100%) assigned to completely satisfied and the score (20%) was assigned to completely dissatisfied, while the other scores (80, 60, and 40%) indicate satisfied, moderately satisfied and dissatisfied respectively.
