Abstract


MV IS known to have a lot of complications, most of them are the
mechanics attributed to the barotrauma of the machine. These complications arc well know to any intensivist e.g. pneumothorax,
pneumope1tioneum, intra pleural pressure changes, ventricular interdependence and many other complications.

The a1m of this work was to study the effect of MV on the normal E lung and whether the machine it self can provoke inflammatory reaction c or not.

Mary authors studied before this issue, but none ofthem conducted

L their work on humans. The references were only on animal models.


Twenty patients were subjected to the following:


I. Full clinical assessment and history taking to exclude any previous pulmonary problems.

2. Complete laboratory analysis to exclude any metabolic disorder liver, renal problem or any endocrinal dysfunction.

3. Bronchoscope was done twice for each patient.


The first time was immediately after ventilation, and the second time was one week later.

On each setting of bronchoscopy BAL was collected and transbronchial biopsy was taken.

Blood sample was taken simultaneously which collecting 8/\L
sampIeon tI1c Ist ancI '_)nd setti•ng.
