PREPARATION AND EVALUATION OF SOME NEW POLYURETHANE SURFACTANTS AS TEXTILE AUXILIARIES

Abstract

In Thesis we are preparation of some new polyurethane nonionic surfactants and their esters then we are loading the prepared compound on silver nanoparticles. The synthesis by react toluene diisocyanate (TDI) with polyethylene glycol with different molecular weight (400, 600, 4000, 6000 and 10000 g mole-1) in appropriate amount of suitable solvent and catalyst. The obtained nonionic polyurethane polymers were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy. The formation of the nonionic polyurethane polymer was conformed by the appearance of urethane IR absorption band at 1107 cm-1 and the disappearance of the isocyanate group at 2100 cm-1 IR absorption band of the molecular weights of the obtained polymers were determined by GPC measurements. The targeted compounds were synthesized by reaction of the different nonionic polyurethane polymers and four fatty acids namely: palmetic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids in equimolar ratio of (1:1). The synthesized nonionic polyurethane polymers were evaluated as additives during textile processing to cover two main processes:- 1- Antimicrobial agents (biocides) to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi during the processes. The bacterial and fungal growth causes degradation of the textile fiber and dyes used. The antimicrobial assay was performed by inhibition zone diameter. 2- Despersion of dyes and stabilization of formed dyes dispersion in the medium. The evaluation was performed by determining the ability of the additives solution towards dispersing the dye in the medium. That was measured by determining the emulsifying power of the dyes in these solutions. Further more, by follow up the change in the colour intensity of the formed dye dispersions. The follow up was performed spectroscopically by measuring the colour intensity of the characteristic absorption band of the dye in the solution.
