Abstract
SUMMARY
T
his study aimed to evaluate serum sRAGE levels in pediatric CRF patients, also their relation with inflammation.
This study comprised:
1- Fifteen CRF patients under regular conservative therapy. They were 11 males and 4 females. Their age ranged from 1-14 years with mean age of 8 + 2.8 years.
2- Fifteen CRF patients under regular hemodialysis. They were 8 males and 7 females. Their age ranged from 5-17 years with mean age of 12.5+3.5.
3- Twenty age and sex matched healthy individuals were included as a control group. Their age < 18 years with mean age of 9.2+4. They were 10 males and 10 females.
All those children were subjected to detailed history, clinical examination, renal functions (serum creatinine, BUN and GFR), serum sRAGE and hs CRP levels.
Also our study showed correlation between serum sRAGE levels with parameters of renal functions in patients with chronic renal failure. The parameters included: age of patients, age of onset of disease, duration of disease, creatinine, BUN and GFR. There was significant correlation between their levels and renal functions as follows: positive correlation with age of patients, age of onset of disease, duration of disease, BUN and creatinine, and negative correlation with GFR as supported by P value <0.001.
The mean values of weight and height were significantly lower in CRF patients than in control groups, with P value <0.001.
