Pain (vague abdominal or right hypochonderial pain) and jaundice are the commonest symptoms but abdominal mass may be present.
Diagnosis of gallbladder carcinoma depends on abdominal U/S which is the most important tool for diagnosis also CT is of value. Recently ultrasound or CT guided fine needle aspiration cytology can help• in preoperative diagnosis.
Surgery remains the mainstay of treatment of gallbladder carcmoma through resection oftJ,e primary tumor and areas oflocal extension.
The prognosis of gallbladder carcinoma depends onthe stage of the tumor. The
5-years survival of early cases is about 85% and in late cases about 5%.
