PREVALENCE OF SMOKING IN BENI-SUEF GOVERNORATE

Abstract
We studied the prevalence of smoking in Beni-Suef Governorate which lies in North Upper Egypt. To our knowledge, no previous work was found in the literature regards the problem of smoking in this governorate of about 2.2 million populations.
The aim of this study was to survey the smoking patterns of the population in Beni-Suef Governorate. Two thousands and ten subjects were questioned. It had been taken in consideration that the sample should •represent the different sectors • of the community.
Thus the sample included :-
• 290 students in secondary school students group ,
• 311 students in university students group ,
• 309 students in medical school students group ,
• . 210 individuals in medical professions group,
• 291 individuals in villagers group ,
• 298 individuals in employees group ,
• 301 individuals in patients group ,
The following results were obtained:-
• The overall prevalence of smoking was 28.65%
